Usually a good first step is to apologize. I’m sure you have already done that. Make sure to tell them how much they mean to you. I would also come up with a mutual shared agreement on what you can expect from each other. You could say something along the lines of “I’m really sorry about what happened, and I know that it might take some time for you to trust me again. I’m you to feel comfortable around me and I’m listening to what you need from me for that to happen. I’d like to talk about your expectations of me and what an ideal relationship looks like. And I’d like to do the same. I’m hoping to come to explicitly lay out what we each need from each other and agree on our expectations of each other so that we can rebuild trust. “ you could even write down those ideas and kind of have a contract but that is only if both of you like that kind of thing. I hope this helps?

I recently dealt with this while I was severely struggling and not being honest with my mom and self-sabotoging. It was incredibly painful as I have never been a liar and my mother and I are each others friends. To work on gaining her trust back, we have made sure our communication is open and I have made major efforts in trying to have my treatments be successful, as well as make sure that I am taking care of myself without having to be reminded or helped. I think that it is very possible to earn that person's trust back, it is just a painful and sometimes long process.
