/tw minor sexual themes has anyone with ocd ever experienced obsessions about fear of pregnancy? it’s a weird thing that has come up for me despite having little reason to rationally fear that. it’s made things like showering more difficult and caused some rather awkward conversations from me, especially with the associated compulsions like hand washing and changing clothes. i share a bathroom with some other people which is the main problem. has anyone experienced something similar and/or have any tips for how to get through rumination?

I've felt this way and still do. It started when I was 16 and I'm now 44. I have to logically convince myself that the likelihood of getting pregnant from using someone else's towel etc is extremely low. Do some research and maybe that'll help ease your mind. Here to chat if you need too :)

Yes, some individuals with OCD have experienced obsessions about the fear of pregnancy. This can lead to difficulties in daily activities like showering and cause compulsive behaviors such as hand washing and changing clothes frequently. It's important to remember that you're not alone in experiencing these thoughts and feelings. One way to cope with rumination is through gentle reassurance and treating your obsessive thoughts like they're an anxious friend, providing proof to counteract the fears. Another method is exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, which involves embracing uncertainty and feeding the OCD with "maybes" instead of seeking certainty.
