i feel like what i may be experiencing isnt dissociation. when it *does* happen, i just sit there and feel like im on a different planet. sometimes i still know whats going on around me, but i cant move or interact or anything. sometimes being touched, scared, or hearing something funny snaps me out of it.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

Generally dissociation is kinda split into two "versions." Depersonalization and Derealization. Depersonalization is feeling like you yourself are not real, do not exist, etc. Usually you will feel extremely disconnected from yourself. You might feel numb, might not be able to feel pain, and hearing and sight can get dulled or fuzzy. Derealization means the world around you doesn't seem real. Often feels like others around you are robots, cardboard cutouts, or like you're in the room the size of a shoebox and you are just in a play or in a movie. Sometimes you'll see yourself in 3rd person view. It's common to experience one or both of these at the same time. The disorder is called DPDR and is tied to trauma. Since you posted this in the DID topic, I do just want to say that dissociation is vital for DID/OSDD systems. That is how they are formed! If you have any questions, let me know. :) -Julian
