Hi everyone! So I have fibromyalgia and about 7 years ago it was newly classified as a disorder of the central nervous system. I have found that I’ve had the best luck with pain relief from gabapentin which is interesting because it was originally made to treat seizures. Anyone else have success with gabapentin?

@Achey_girl I feel like there’s really no difference 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just switched because my doctors said to

Just FYI: Carbonated beverages will make fibromyalgia pain worse. 👍

Gabapentin did nothing for my pain

Started on gabapentin then switched to pregabalin because the gaba wasn’t mixing right with my other medications

@Tayzer interesting. Did they both feel similar or was gabapentin stronger?

I take 1200mg of gabapentin three times a day. My fibromyalgia got chronic with the years, I started with 150mg 13 years ago now I’m on the highest available dosage.

@Elladolores does it make you forgetful? I was on 900 for a while and then went to a lower dose because I was forgetting all the time. Now I might go back up because it’s the only thing that’s given me relief.

@Achey_girl I was on gabapentin and it’s other forms such as Gralise and horizant all of them caused me memory issues and that can be a side effect

I've had no luck with gabapentin. I was on the highest dose but I had to take it all at bed time cause it made me too tired to function.

Gabapentin works by essentially slowing down your entire nervous system. That's why it helps with seizures and fibromyalgia, they're both caused by overactivity of the central nervous system. I was amazed at how helpful it was for my fibro, but I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it also helped with what doctors have always told me were stress-induced pseudoseizures (aka not "real" seizures). I know better now, but I was still surprised to find it helps with non-epileptic seizures as well

I too have success with Gabapentin. I take it 3x a day.
