Hello everyone!! š Iām very new to the app but I just wanted to say hi and ask one major question I guess? One thing Iāve been struggling with is being honest and open about my mental health struggles with my doctors. I know when I started to first feel depressed that I mentioned it but I was never ādiagnosedā with it and they seemed to assume that because we stopped therapy (my mom couldnāt afford it anymore) that I was fine and would grow out of it. My last physical I was finally open about my anxiety (but not depression) and all I was told was to breathe. I started breaking down in tears when I was diagnosed with PCOS because I had to go on birth control and every one Iāve tried had made me gain more weight and affected my mental health tremendously, but I was told if Iām not on it I had a high risk of developing cancer. I guess my whole point to this story is, if youāve been diagnosed, has it helped at all? Would you say itās worth it? And how do you find the doctors that will listen to your concerns?

@Medical_1234 diet has been the best help for naturally managing things. Gluten free/dairy free, whole foods, no processed sugars or refined carbs.

Im on the same boat. By the time i found out about my pcos i was in my late 20s. I am from central america and seeing a therapist is extremely frowned upon not to mention having something thats this debilitating š„ ā¤ļø

This is such a frustrating feeling! I have been diagnosed with pcos for 13 years but had issues way before that. Birth control actually wrecked havoc on my body. I gained weight, had vulva pain, bacteria vaginosis every time I had sex with my husband. I have been off birth control for 5 years now.
This is also the reason why I donāt want to go on birth controlā¦my mental health is very important to me but honestly Iām going to try to fix my hormones naturally before I ever decided to go on birth control or etc.
@Citla I really want to do that as well, I was just so scared when she told me that. Have you found anything that helps yet?
@Medical_1234 Not yet, Iām still working on how to get my period naturally :(
This is so real! Most medical doctors unfortunately havenāt had enough training in responding to mental health concerns. I find it helpful to have a list of things to discuss with my doctor so I donāt feel rushed and forget things. Odds are next time you go theyāll ask how youāve been doing, and that could be the perfect time to mention that youāve been struggling with declining mental health. You could also call the office and ask if they have a referral to any therapists for help coping if thatās something youāre open to/have the resources for. Best of luck to you!!
