Hey guys. I have GAD with OCD traits. I got a second opinion from another psych doc and they think I am bipolar 2. My ssri helps me be functional but I still have these horrible depressive/anxious dips. Do any of you guys have bipolar 2 with severe anxiety? What medication has helped you? Are there any anti psychotics that do NOT cause weight gain?

Bipolar 1 disorder with psychosis and mixed episodes here 👋🏼 I’ve been on seroquil for two years and it’s great! Only downside is that you will gain weight ugh 😩

Bipolar 2 with anxiety. I’m on lexapro and Buspar. I also just started a low dose of Wellbutrin for ADHD. I have a congenital heart defect so I can not have stimulants. Straterra makes my heart race.

Medication that has helped me is Abilify and a buspar. I’m bipolar 2 with GAD, and that has helped me live my life where anxiety isn’t so impactful.

I was previously diagnosed with Bipolar 1 / mixed episodes a d also have anxiety. I was previously on Seroquel and it worked so well for my mood, sleep, thought processes and functioning. I was med free for a while and doing ok, but then the racing thoughts, insomnia etc took over. So I talked to a different doctor and she prescribed zoloft. I took that for about 1.5 months and it makes things much worse. I discontinued that and plan to to back to my original psychiatrist to see about starting seroquel again. Ive tried other meds throughout the past 15 years and seroquel worked the best.

Most atypical antipsychotics have the same issues where they cause insulin resistance which can cause weight gain or type 2 diabetes, depending on your predispositions. Saphris and latuda have a “lower” metabolic impact than older meds like seroquel or abilify. Latuda is approved for treating bipolar depression and saphris can be used for helping with severe anxiety. They are only available in brand name and insurance may require a trial of other (generic) meds before they will pay for them though.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 and have been on lithium carbonate for about ten years now—it’s helped massively in that I haven’t had a *major* manic episode during this time, though I still have highs and lows that are significant but manageable with regular CBT practice. No weight gain, worst side effects are a tremor in my hands and being constantly thirsty. I also take a low dose of Zoloft for GAD which works fine with the lithium
