NG Tube: How Long is Too Long?

i started with an NG tube but only had it for 3-4 months before they converted to an NJ. because i was still losing weight and vomiting my tube up, they placed a GJ tube in my abdomen. that one had issues as well but lasted for about 3 years. now i have a j tube and it has done an okay job of maintaining my weight, but it does have problems of its own (pain, leaking, etc).

I had an NJ and was supposed to only be on it for four weeks or so, but it ended up turning into about three months. It was really bothersome and nauseating, but I didn’t get nauseous from eating anymore so that was good 🤷‍♀️

NG is better for when you can eat but won’t like anorexia, NJ goes into the small intestines completely bypassing the stomach which will work better for gastroparesis.

With gastroparesis, you want an NJ tube. That goes into the small intestines. NG is no different than eating 🙄

I have an NJ tube and I’ve had it for a month and a half and am getting a GJ placed in a few weeks.
