Hi! ok so im a young teen with symptoms of various mental disorders however the most prominent one is adhd/add. I was told adhd/add is harder to identify in females because its just seen as regular personality traits but i've been trying to see a therapist to get a real diagnosis. Since im under 18 my parents have to do everything that involves medical stuff. my mom will not get me therapy or take me to a therapist to get a diagnosis. I just want to ask if other people had this issue too and how they dealt with all these symptoms without proper help?

hey! i was in a similar situation- my parents didn't believe me bc i have more daydreamy/hyperfocus issues than being high-energy. body doubling helps me a lot! basically just asking someone to be in the room as you do work. even having someone on the phone with me helps. let yourself take breaks and engage in hyperfixations to relax. if possible, explain to your teachers that you're struggling with focus and achieving goals (or flat out say you think you have adhd, if you feel comfortable with that) and ask for help to make a plan! tricking yourself into doing things that are difficult with executive dysfunction also helps; each step along the way, tell yourself you aren't actually going to do xyz, you're doing something else! so like "im not getting in the shower, im just hanging up my towel. im not getting in the shower, im just taking off my clothes. im not getting in the shower, im just turning on the water." and then muscle memory takes over and whoa!! howd i get in the shower!!
