I’m only starting the second decade of my life and I’m already relying heavily on a caregiver to cope with the bad days and extremely debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia. He’s my boyfriend, hopefully husband in the next few years, and happy to take on that role. But I don’t want to saddle him with all that responsibility, and I want to gain back some independence that I’ve lost. I just don’t know where to start when searching for aids and hacks that would make my life more independent.

I think the most important thing with a caregiver is balance. I created a little area next to my bed where I keep things I need frequently like snacks, water, meds, remotes, charger, etc. That way they can plop me down in front of the TV and know that I'm safe for them to go out for a few hours. I had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in the bedroom when I was living in an upstairs/downstairs apartment. As far as health goes, I'd say figure out what your goals are. Less pain? Ability to walk/stand for farther/longer? Being able to independently perform more hygiene or household duties? From there you can start making plans towards that goal. A physical therapist can often be a good resource for how to make modifications.

Look into the qs seen on TV stuff. A lot of it was for medically needing.

@Trudie_tootie Thank you! I hadn’t thought of that!
