Are there ways to deal with mood swings (mania and depression) without medication? I know about some skills I learned in therapy like deep breathing, grounding techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, and all of that. But I am always so caught up in my head that I forget to implement these things and I spiral. What can I do to prevent the spiral? I can’t increase my meds cause I’m already on a weight loss drug due to the weight gain from them, and I can’t decrease my dose of adderall because I can barely function on the dose I take as is. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

      Stick to a routine and take care of yourself. Like mediate, read, and self care are always good. Exercise is also good too

      Honestly I can only stay leveled or be able to manage my episodes better when I'm on meds but I do forget to take them for weeks at a time sometimes when it gets bad so what I like to do is set a schedule, go to therapy, and get sunlight. I read that in a book about bipolar and they said those were the three most important things to live with bipolar. Start setting a routine where you wake up and go to sleep at the same times, eat nutritional meals, exercise or do yoga, meditate and do daily affirmations in the mirror. Sunlight is crucial so make sure you go outside, even if it's like for a 10 minute walk or sitting on your patio for 10 minutes at a time. And therapy will help you find coping mechanisms to help to process and deal with the episodes better. I hope this helps! If you have any questions, please message me!

        @pandasss I currently do therapy and that helps a lot! I’m trying to slowly build a schedule with healthy habits but my ADHD makes it really hard to do. Not to say I’m giving up (I’m not), but I know it takes time. Do you have any skills you use in the moment for when you feel yourself spiral, or any ways to remind yourself during the spiral to use those skills?

          @katitomato yes, I have adhd too so building a schedule is really hard for me but keep trying and it'll work! As for spiral do you mean when I get super overwhelmed or spiral as in episodes? I've been tracking my manic/depressive episodes which really help me when I think I'm currently in one or I do something or react to something differently than normal or not using my coping skills I've learned. I can send you my list if you want! As for feeling really overwhelmed, I have to take meds. It depends on if it is a sensory overload or emotional overload depends on which med I take.
