My Experience in ICU with Infectious Gallbladder and Pulmonary Embolism

I spent 5 days and nights in ICU due to an infectious gallbladder full of stones and a Pulmonary Embolism with Cor Pulmonate. I also have clots in my leg. My O2 was as low as 87. I just recently learned what Cor Pulmonate means and that scares me. I left the hospital with a T tube in the side where my gallbladder is with a bag to expel the infection and the bile. When the bag comes out, the gallbladder will be removed. I also have E-coli in my bloodstream so I have to self administer antibiotics intravenously through IV. I take Eliquis daily now. I’m new to this.

      @Coffee_hound Thank you so much for responding!!! I appreciate the information!! I went to the doctor yesterday and everything has miraculously normalized. I no longer have cirrhosis of the liver My platelets are normal, red/white blood cells are normal, etc…. I still have to work on this gallbladder. I’m trying not to eat foods that will irritate my stomach. I’m so grateful to God that I’m feeling better day by day.

      I had blood clots in my lungs; had to be removed through a not so fun surgery. I was on eliquis for almost a year, finally off it. They think it was from my birth control, so they are hopeful it won’t happen again. If you stay with eliquis, I remember there was a deal to get 3 packages and it’s so much cheaper (I think it was through like Amazon medicine prime mail) or something like that with cvs or Walgreens.

        @Kote Oh wow 😮 I wasn’t aware that they could be removed. I’m sorry that you had to go through that. The T tube operation was painful too. I was awake and it was very painful. They gave me local anesthesia but it worked only superficially. Imagine having a tube inserted into your side. Pain and agony I tell ya!!!

      Most likely the clots started in your leg, then one/some broke off and ended up in your lung. If no one mentioned compression stockings, you should get on that now. I get mine through Amazon, Sockwell. I wear them every day. Launder them in gentle detergent, hang to dry and they will last a long time. Yes they are pricey, but well worth it, to avoid more DVT.

      Wow, you certainly have your hands full now. Re DVT ( deep vein blood clots)- I have had 3, the first with multiple PE’s both lungs. You will most likely be on blood thinners the rest of your life. My first med was Coumadin, very cheap but hard to control. On Eliquis now, very expensive. My dr works with the drug company, I get it free most of the year. Eliquis is easy to control. Once you get your Gall Bladder out, I think your life will be MUCH better!! You have a lot on your plate right now, but there are better days ahead!!!
