What do you consider to be a “flare” with your HS? Is it in one spot, or in a few spots? Or is it based on how bad or painful they are? When you’re not in a “flare” do you still have some spots or are they completely gone? For me even when I’m not having a flare, I still have at least one or two at all times somewhere on my body, they’re just less inflamed than others. Just curious about other people’s experiences.

I flare when it's time for my moon. Just like acne. Sometimes I have a moon with nothing new popping up. But I always have some. In my groin only. Under my breasts were in my 20s, no where else. Mostly cysts. Mostly small. Some pop some don't. Boil rarely but always around my moon. If I think something is ready to head I will use heat. I never use cold. I don't have pain. Wel, Rarely. when in a crease between legs or it super hardens like cystic acne. I have serious itch tho. Does anyone's itch?

I'm newly diagnosed. Only 1 visit to dermatologist so far. No followup yet.

@chowdahead23 I’m finding that those seem to be related with me too. I’m noticing a pattern more and more frequently that I didn’t notice before. Is there a certain severity where you go to the dermatologist? Yes yes yes. So much itch. But I can’t itch bc of pain lol. Doesn’t work too well. I’m also allergic to most adhesives so if I try to put something over it to protect, I get like a burn the whole size where there is adhesive on the bandaid. It is very unfortunate. Stupid HS 😑

I also have some that never go away. Always there and sometimes leak randomly especially on my breasts, I've had to throw out so many bras from stains and just stuff on them...

@Leggs I’m trying to decide between heat and ice on one that has already burst an hour ago, I wish it was that easy. I have the stubborn ones like you too, they drain and fill over and over again, ugh. And I agree with you!! I just bought a new bra an actual bra. Wore it for like 8 hrs and had 4 new spots than got inflamed super fast. So I guess that’s a no go 🫠

I use heat to bring it to a head, and they move around, mostly between my groin, butt and breasts.

I have spots all the time but I only consider it a flare up when one or more of them swell up real bad and get painful. I'm lucky in the aspect of only getting them in my groin and buttocks area. But, that area is COVERED with cysts and boils.

@Mrs.T when more than one is in pain it’s so awful. Which as others say as well, is mostly all the time. I hate to use the word prefer.. but is it easier for you to have them in many areas or all in one? I have mine in many places and they’re in clusters in each place. I hate it when they’re everywhere bc it’s harder to find a comfortable position. But when they’re in one spot they build on the pain and ugh. It all sucks! Do you ever use heat or ice?

I consider my personal falre ups to be more than one and with high pain, which is usually all the time now a days, they have recently moved and started popping up in my groin/inner thigh area and less on my breasts now.

@Leggs I think that may be how I will classify and ditto. Just constant. I’d like to go to my dermatologist but I never know when an appropriate time to go is. Do you get yours predominately in one area? Or do they move around? Do you any ice or heat?

I consider mine a flare up when they appear, which admittedly is more often than not. I also get them frequently with varying degrees of pain and can be on one spot or more. When they heal up, they sometimes leave a scar that tends to be sensitive and also cause me pain at times.

@ShaeT do you ever use any heat or ice?

@ShaeT see that’s why I question what a flare is bc I’m the same. I have a minimum of 1-2 inflamed ones at a time. So in a constant state of flare? Lol. I don’t know what to consider a flare up. So thank you. And yes those scars with the tunneling are very sore!
