I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency 10 months ago. I also have diabetes. I'm on hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone but I am so fatigued all the time that I have to take daily naps. I've experimented with different dosing schedules, different milligram strengths, but nothing except 60 mg a day helps me feel good. I know that its not good to take high doses for very long. I've added multivitamins, b12 vitamins, calcium, d3, and vitamin e. I don't know what to do anymore. Any ideas?

Ok. First, ask your doctor. See an Oncologist. I take hydrocortisone three times a day and it literally keeps me alive. I'm also tired a lot, but naps are very helpful

I take my first dose of hydrocortisone (20mg) and Fludrocortisone (2x 0.1mg) at 4am when I am still in bed and go back to sleep. I know it sounds weird, but a normal persons body will release cortisol around 4 am to wake you up naturally. I am by no means a medical professional, this is just what I do. I have had type 1 diabetes for ovr 20 yrs and Addison’s since 2014. I have tried MANY different doses, times, schedules, breaking it up 4-6 times a day. I have to switch back and forth between hydrocortisone and prednisone about every 6 months to a year because it will just slowly stop working and they are interchangeable. I have also noticed that if I forget to take the fludrocortisone I can not get out of bed. Just so tired. I do still take a nap everyday though. And in the summer I take an extra 0.1mg of fludro because of the heat and humidity. I take another dose of 5mg of hydrocortisone around 5pm. I know when you are first diagnosed they put you on a higher dose of steroids because yr body has been without them, but then slowly wean you of to a more “ normal “ dose which is based on body mass, but usually around 25-30mg daily.

My doctor hasn't mentioned putting me on prednisone yet and I'm very leery of taking it due to seeing what it did to my mom.

I have weaned down to 25 mg first thing in the morning, 15 mg of hydrocortisone and a half tablet of 0.1 mg if fludrocortisone at 11 a.m., 5 mg of hydrocortisone and 0.1 mg of fludrocortisone at 2 p.m. I have to nap everyday. I do stay busy as much as I can to keep going. I'm not on insulin. I'm on 2000 mg of metformin and 10 mg of jardiance a day. I do have a feeling that I will probably end up on insulin eventually. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and he has the omnipod and the Libre sensors. It has changed his life.

Hi! You sound just like me! I am on 4 mg of Predisone and add in hydrocortisone when I have emotional stress or sick. I too have type 2 diabetes. I dose 3 times a day. When I had my adrenal glands out I was always dosing 3x a day. It works better for me. Are you on insulin? 60 mg is a high dose. Have you tried to wean down and it just doesn’t work for you? You are on great vitamins. I drink a Starbucks green tea and just having a little caffeine helps so much. I don’t like to drink a lot of caffeine just enough to give me some energy. I lay down during the day, I try not to nap because then I will be up late. 1. Try and wean 2. Add a little caffeine 3. Try to take a walk 4. Do little things to keep you busy I unfortunately just push myself through most days. Al of the best to you!! Take care
