Is it possible to ever function normally without meds? I feel like every time I'm off my meds or I forget to take them I go crazy and my moods are all over the place. I'm asking so I know if I can have hope that it'll ever get better because I don't really want to have to be medicated my whole life.

Our brain chemistry does not heal, our disorders do not just go away. Would you stop taking your heart meds because you feel better? If not, then why stop taking your meds if they make you feel better? Allow your meds to do what they are there for: to make the brain chemicals we are missing.

there is no shame in taking meds forever, just how some have to take blood pressure meds or joint medication!!! i understand the feeling of despair of not wanting to take them forever, but our brains are sick and need medicine, just how we need medicine when we get physically sick. unfortunately, meds are a lifetime commitment. we are missing some chemicals and they are not balanced like neurotypical ppl’s are, so we need to correct it and find the balance by taking meds ^^ it’s worth trying to find a good combo of meds that doesn’t have many adverse side effects to make it more bearable!! <333

I have been medicated now for about 10 years. I used to feel the same way....that I didn't want to have to take meds forever. But just as someone who needs meds to keep their blood pressure under control - or someone who has to take insulin for diabetes....meds are what helps us function within our illness. I finally came to terms with the fact that I'll have to take it forever....but that isn't a negative thing...it means that I have finally found what helps me function in the world and that is actually a wonderful success.
I get really bad anxiety when I forget to take my meds now I make sure to take them
I have the same thoughts all the time man. But after my past I’m honestly scared to try
