Does anxiety cause physical ticks? I'm wondering if maybe I have OCD but I'm not sure if it's just my anxiety causing it.

A lot of things can cause tics or things similar to tics. I have PTSD and have some shiver-like tics and head twitchy tics. I also have OCD but I've never heard of OCD causing tics outside of maybe compulsions to do a certain movement in order to maintain the "balance." People with ADHD and Austism stim, which can behave like a tic because sometimes it hurts to not stim, but not doing it isn't as difficult. (Depending on the person.) For example, I have a hand shaking stim that I do randomly. It's uncomfortable to not shake my hand, but I can eventually ignore it. Not the same as a tic, but similar.

Anxiety can cause tics or worsen already existing tics. It's usually anxiety twitching. I also have it but meds helped reduced my anxiety alot and therefore my twitching also went down alot. But yes...it's a thing. Just look up anxiety twitching.

Personally my tics get much worse when I’m anxious. After many therapy sessions, neurology appointments, and tests I was told that anxiety makes them worse. I already knew that but my specialists just confirmed it. Apparently it is common with people who have tics. I am currently doing CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to find out how to decrease my tics simply by using mental “tricks”. I hope this helps!

I think it depends on what you mean, and if you can control it. If you can't really control them it could be tourette's. But if you have to think about them and they happen a lot when your anxious it could be anxiety

Generally no ticks, however I have experienced sudden little movements/jolts if a really anxious thought hits me, especially if I’m in bed with my eyes closed. Maybe that’s just me. It doesn’t mean you have OCD.
