I just read articles. I matched symptoms so well that I bought books and those explained so much of my life and my self. Then I was fortunate enough to receive a diagnosis from a good psychologist

You can rake a look at neurooclastic understanding the autistic mind. It is a book the out in free pdf form written by autistic people, how our brains work, what it is like living with a neruodiverse brain in a neruotypical world.... it's fascinating and a really big help I'm self diagnosed autism. I am also learning alot about sensitivities I didn't know were connected to autism and hyper and hypo things I do thst I didn't know I did.... I highly recommend this and seriously can't recommend it enough

You could take the RAADS-R test online if you want something faster and easier than setting up therapy/doctor appointments to reassure you that you're looking in the right direction before you put that work into it. Also talk to autistic people or read/watch media centering actual autistic people to get a better idea of all the ways symptoms might present and be treated.

I didn't suspect until a couple of months ago when some friends who have it talked about their symptoms and what it was like and I realized similarties. From there I took some online test because I figure it will give me an idea and maybe more of an idea what to talk about with a therapist

My therapist was shocked I wasn't tested as a kid for neurodivergancy or dyslexia. I also know alot of symptoms fun concurrent from cPTSD / trauma. It was a year out for the testing wait list with the place that takes my insurance. I figured "might as well just get on it" it comes around sooner than later. Some people ask why I need testing and cant just self diagnosis *which I have* if I don't need accommodations. My reply, "I do need accommodations. You don't see my work history."

i also suspect i have asd…what i did was really do some research and went to this website: https://embrace-autism.com/autism-tests/ they actually can connect you with one if their doctors to get a screening also this other test that autistic creators recommended https://rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php screenshot your results and the results of what ppl diagnosed with asd got and compare. keep track of it.

Watch videos by autistic people. Poke around autistic communities. Know that if you feel like your faking or mistaken, it doesn't mean you are. Look into masking if you haven't already. If you have a therapist you trust, bring up symptoms to them if you want to. This is generally what I did/am doing, so don't take it as the only way to do things, but this is what worked for me.
