I took my daughter to the doctor today. She’s preschool age. We discussed adhd because her father has it. And we suspect she does. I told my mother this and she flipped out on me. Saying I was trying to push labels on a kid for no reason. We homeschool. I want to know how to help her learn best. I’m so upset. I always know what my Mom will do or say but it doesn’t hurt any less.

I am sorry your mom reacted that way. I totally understand how hurt you feel. My entire family, including my husband, reacted that way with my son. You know what's best. Afterall, you are who takes care of AND teaching your child. Don't let what anyone else says deter you from finding answers. You are the only advocate your child has. Stand your ground! You got this!

I originally got diagnosed at 8, but my father insisted that I just "couldn't pay attention" (ironic huh) and I didn't end up on medication or dealing with it at all until highschool and I wish I would've started much sooner. I didn't learn coping skills until I had already missed out on so many opportunities for planning and learning when I could in school, and I really regret it. your daughter doesn't have to be defined by a diagnosis, but if she can learn how she learns qnd works best early on, I think that's what matters most.

Do what’s best for your daughter! I agree - a diagnosis will help her learn the way that helps her best. Good luck dealing with the naysayers!
