I have chronic knee and shoulders pains. I usually get cortisone shots but they don’t last that long. Should I ask the doctor to do the shoulders and knee replacements?

I’ll bring that up to the surgeon when I see him next month.

I was told cortisone shots can actually cause more arthritis in your joints (from orthopedic surgeon). I've had 9 knee surgeries. I would maybe see if they would do an exploratory surgery and see if they find something causing your pain

No you shouldn't. Those are saved for last ditch efforts. Usually for people who are bone on bone. I have terrible OA in my knees, shoulders, back, ankles, hips, and left wrist was fused last August from OA. They can't replace wrists so they fuse them. I have cortisone shots too and don't always work. That doesn't mean you need joint replacements. You can always ask for a viscous injection. Those lubricate the joints allow them to move more freely and without grinding. I get what's called a Durolane injection as well. It's just all five shots of Supartz all in one. Those can only be given every six months. Cortisone is only every four months.

Thanks for sharing your stories.
Osteoarthritis in my right knee, cortisone shot didn't work for me at all, followed up with a lubricating shot the consistency of honey... a month later I'm feeling at least a 50% improvement. I have to compare my behavior from current to about a month ago, I'm not sobbing on the inside, I'm standing longer and able to handle things better. It's a very slow improvement, but it's still improvement.
Hi, a few years ago I consulted with my attending physician regarding joint replacement surgery. I realized that there are a number of different types of surgery (full / partial replacement) and that they serve as a last resort. It seems to me worthwhile to consult with him, depending on the severity of the disease in the joint and the therapeutic alternatives that can be offered.
I appreciate what you wrote. I’ll ask if they have something new.
I have had 5 knee replacements one at a time. You should see on orthopedic doctor and get an opinion the might have something new out
