Trying amitryiptiline for the first time. On a low dosage and been using it for almost a month now but it hasn’t helped with my sleep nor pain as of yet.

I used that one for a little while. I felt good initially but it started to give me vivid nightmares where I would wake up and not know what was real. Medications work differently for everyone. I hope it works for you.

Remember that a lot of medications will not have immediate side effects. Don't give up!

Hi!! I take amitryptalline for headaches and fibromyalgia. Im on a super low dosage (10 mg) because I think the higher dosage I was on was causing my heart to flutter and feel weird. I find that when I don't take it I feel much more tense, but I think it might be one of those medications that take a little bit to work for some people depending on how tight your muscles are. Im not sure how long you've been on it, but I would take it for at least a couple months before deciding to stop taking it. Hope this helps a bit!

I was on that my doctor prescribed it and it did not help me that I know of but then again they started me on 4 different meds but my psychologist said it is for depression and was making my bipolar much worse.

I use 50mg nightly along with lots of other meds. I never know when my meds are or aren't working because I take so many but I guess it is working. Helping me sleep along with Serequel.

My husband got prescribed this for sleep a few years ago and got addicted to it he HAD TO HAVE IT started counting them it totally changed who he was he was angry when they kicked in we were always fighting I finally convinced him to stop taking them I bought him some melatonin for awhile and he hasn't needed anything since.

@MacuJay65 yeah I’ve actually tried other natural remedies before I started taking medicine for my fibro. So far it hasn’t had any bad side effects but not any good ones either. Upping the dosage to 25mg now since my doctor suggested it

Perhaps I'm wrong in saying this but I was on it for a couple years many years ago. I was never under any impression this it would assist in pain or sleep. As I know it and was outlined fairly clear then to me it is nothing more than a good preventative medicine and would assist with outbreak symptoms faster than not using it at all. Check with your pharmacist and maybe double check with two. You may find that your doctor and you should discuss other medications to assist you with the pain and then your sleep that's what I would do. Again perhaps I'm wrong, but all this time I've never known it to be anything for pain or anything else other than symptoms it treats the symptoms of your outbreaks and more so is geared to help prevent outbreaks. Best of luck hopefully that's some good information for you will help you in the future.

@lucian1 well I have Fibro and amitryiptiline is known to help with both sleep and fibro pain. I’ve done the research so that’s why I decided to try it but it hasn’t helped me much

@Miyuki that's news to me. But again I'm out years in any loop. I simply suffered from simplex/ whitlow. And the irritation could be at times painful for sure but not like Fibro pain I'm sure. I'd still talk with your doctor ab or other meds if it's not really helping and it should. Maybe its a matter of what works better for you?
