i’ve been thinking about starting an inositol supplement of some kind. the vitamin itself has two forms that are said to help ppl with pcos with hunger cravings, sugar levels, weight loss, and even bring back a normal cycle. i’ve seen a few different products on the market at varying cost depending on the other ingredients in the supplement, but all the reviews have been positive with so many ppl saying it’s helped lose weight which is really the driving force for me. i asked my gp about it and she said she’s never heard of it before and doesn’t know about any drug interactions, and to talk to my gyno. i made an appointment for a phone call with my gyno nurse to talk about it. i’m hoping i can start it bc i feel so lost.

I go to a functional medicine clinic, and was recommended to take inositol (intake Ovositol) because I have some insulin resistance (blood sugars are normal, insulin is a little elevated). It has helped a lot with my insulin resistance! Because insulin resistance/blood sugar go hand-in-hand with sugar and carb cravings, lowering your insulin and blood sugar helps with those cravings/ weight loss.

Interesting! Didn't heard about this supplement. I take Metformin to regulate my blood sugar levels. I have Diabetes but my gynecologist suggested it for PCOS, you can take it even without having diabetes. Maybe you can discuss this option with your doctor?

I'd echo the comments above me about considering any history of blood sugar disorders or diabetes. There's a new brand called Vita-PCOS by Cory Ruth, and she's a fellow cyster and a registered dietitian!

No, I don’t have to be on any other medications to regulate my sugars so far. I think Ovasitol + the other supplements are helping me avoid that, but history of high or low sugar levels also doesn’t run in my family, which I’m sure is also a big factor.

do you need to be on any other medications to regulate your sugars at all?

I never heard of the option for Inositol from a doctor either. I wish more doctors especially those specializing in women’s health knew more about these type of options. After researching, I found the product Ovasitol and it’s great. I take that with a combination of liquid Vitamin D, omega-3, and other supplements that I learned about from www.pcosnutrition.com. I think Ovasitol definitely helps with sugar cravings and my mood, but what I have found to be most effective for weight loss is Berberine Plus, which is a new supplement on that website: https://www.pcosnutrition.com/berberine/ The downside is that all of the supplements can add up financially, but it’s worth budgeting for because it’s the only thing I found that has worked for me.
