Hi F(22) I haven’t been medically diagnosed as autistic, but I’ve taken all the tests on the embrace autism website and scored very high. I’ve been trying to talk about it with my friends, but I’ve been struggling to talk to my family about it. I mentioned to my mom a few months ago about thinking I could be autistic and she shot me down saying I couldn’t be. I believe she might be autistic too, but I’m not sure how to bring it up to her.

Hi there. I relate. Interestingly enough, this all stemmed from my friend who was diagnosed with Aspergers early on in life making a joke that I might be Autistic. There were a few well-received tests within the Autistic community that I had taken and it came back even higher than his (I had him take it as well). I also joined some Autism support groups on Facebook and following the advice I've read on there has helped me tremendously (that and ADD groups, which I do have an official diagnosis for). I also have a lot of co-morbid symptoms, so I truly think I might have it (on top of my other siblings and family being Neurodivergent AND one of my younger brothers being diagnosed with Aspergers as well). It all just seems to be adding up. Tried to get an official test but unfortunately, my Medicaid is restricting coverage so I need to fight for it to be covered. I totally understand your situation. 💞

i felt this. i’m self diagnosed as well and is a lot easier talking to friends than family. and unmasking too. i think for me it’s because i have really bad imposter syndrome and i’m worried they’ll be like “gotcha! you’re not autistic you’re a liar!” when i know that wouldn’t happen. I have masked my whole life, so my family really only knows the masking part of me.

@historychick It’s still hard talking to some of my friends about it because they don’t understand. I have one friend that is also autistic and it helps to talk to him about stuff but I still feel weird. I don’t know how to talk about it, like my autistic traits and things that are overstimulating to people that are not autistic.
