After an expensive consultation with a sleep specialist, I was able to get my pcp to order a sleep study. I've been wanting one for years with apnea suspicions but docs always dismiss me saying I'm to young and small..... It's precisely the smallness of my airways that concern me. Anyone else do a sleep study? What are they like?

Just had one on Thursday, after years of saying the same! It's so irritating how many doctors put things off because of age or size. I've heard they do home sleep studies as well, but mine was in the hospital, so it was a bit more in depth with many many wires. The tech put two bands around the chest to help keep them in place and occasionally a blob of glue, a pulse ox, and finally a cord with two little nubs ever so slightly in your nose (sorry, im not sure what that peice was called), but that was as uncomfortable as it got. If my feet didn't keep getting tangled moving around, I probably would have forgotten about it all. She also recommended to try to sleep on your back, as sleeping on your stomach may knock things out of place. My primary doctor had mentioned there's a chance it won't show anything too out of the ordinary since the data from my notes and smart watch seems so inconsistent, but I'd say it's worth a shot! Hopefully you get some answers. Goodluck, lem404!

Dang. I know the primary I've been seeing for years put the code in for suspected seizures as a reason (a past issue), which is what finally got them to approve it for me. Its a shame to say this and you probably already know with the way things are, but definitely exaggerate how troublesome it is. When breathing trouble happens while awake, it's not nearly so hard to be taken seriously! Maybe if there's any family history of apnea anywhere at all down the line that might help convince them.

Oh dear, didn't realize I rambled for so long
@MaeBea I finally spoke with a scheduling person who said I HAD to see their in house doc for a consult first and if he thinks there's a need then I can schedule the sleep study. This is ridiculous.
