Hi this is my first post on Alikes. I joined because I am feeling a bit overwhelmed managing my type 1 diabetes lately and some of the gifts it has bestowed on me. Struggling with foot pain which has stopped me getting out walking in the beautiful countryside where I live for the past 9 months. Recently started continuous glucose monitoring and liking it but feeling more medicalised than ever by machines and gadgets that go beep. Trying to look on the bright side but struggling....need to loose weight but hampered due to foot pain. I suppose I am looking for some moral support through shared experiences

I have to continually monitor my blood sugar as well. Yes it's a chore with the bells and whistles but look at it this way by continually monitoring your blood sugar you are keeping yourself alive. I understand about foot pain try gabapentin I take it three times a day and it helps my feet pain just wish I could get my left knee better

Welcome! I can relate to the pain you're experiencing. Not just how difficult it is to be in pain, but it's really frustrating that it limits activities that would help like exercise. And then without exercise, I gain weight which makes it worse. It's like a never ending cycle. I hope you find the support you're looking for, this site is pretty good about that.

I have issues with exercise as well between heart palpitations and a foot problem that even doctors seem perplexed by its hard to get motivated to want to move at all. I'm on dexcom and the omnipod and love them although it took me a while to stop finger stickin for the exact reason you mentioned...I feel like a medical robot. I just try to relax and find ways to work around things. Sometimes if I'm to tired to go on a walk I go on a car ride with family on a backroad for some scenery. Or even something small like opening a window and doing a puzzle. It's always a roller-coaster of emotions and there are some seriously tough days so I get how you feel.

@Pinkblossom2020 it's good that your getting on well with Ur pump and Dexcom. I thought about the Omnipod as I liked the thought of no wire but was worried about knocking the pump out as it seemed a bit bulky and I am so clumsy. I was using Libre flash sensors until recently and was forever knocking them out of arm. Like you I had awful problems with heart palpitations for years and had lots of tests. Eventually an endocrinologist decided it was the menopause and put me on body identical hormone replacement therapy. It didn't cure the applications but they are about 85% better. I didn't even realise the menopause and peri menopause can cause awful palpitations. I sympathise about your foot. I've had Achilles heel issues on and off for a while and then left foot pain for 9 months. Waiting for an x-ray as I am really struggling. Walking everyday kept me sane and not being able to walk with the dog has driven me crazy. Your idea of a drive is a good one it's good to get out even if you can only look at the view
