I'm 22 and having a hard time getting disability because I'm so young. Has anyone dealt with this issue or a similar issue? any words of advice or understanding are really appreciated

I was denied the first time I applied for disability. I took that denial and hired a lawyer. When I went to the hearing I had a massive panic attack from hearing that I could work. The judge look at the man that was there and said that I could work and said”now can she work” he said “there is no way I could work under this situation” I didn’t try to have a panic attack but it sure was helpful right then and there. The government does not want anyone who has a mental disability and that is a shame given that mental health is a serious problem. I will pray you can receive disability.

I’m dealing with a lot of medical issues since birth. I was able to work during the summertime during my soft more and junior years of high school. Then when I turned 18 I worked at a group home taking care of 3 handicapped young men and I continued working at the group home after I graduated high school in 2002. I continued working at the group home up until 2016 when it just got to be to difficult to do because of my medical problems. My mom helped me in 2016 to start the process to get my disability. I don’t remember the exact date that I finally got approved. It was either some time last year or early this year. But I tried having multiple different lawyers help me get approved. But they had no luck. I use to do a lot of volunteering and then after I had to have emergency shunt surgery in I think it was either 2018 or 2019 The surgery. Then I just started having issues with my balance.so I had to give up all my volunteering jobs. Then after I stopped volunteering that’s when I was finally approved for my disability. So I’m praying that you don’t have to deal with all the problems that my mom and I went through. Good luck 👍

I'm having trouble getting a diagnosis. Bc I'm only 23 as of spring and have been living with pain since I was 12 they usually don't believe that I'm in as much pain as I say I am. That compounded with the fact that I have a lot of disorders with similar symptoms so every time I go to the doctor with my list of chronic fatigue, chronic pain, dizziness and balance issues, low mood, ect they start doing tests and find something like depression or a deficiency and ignore the severe and unwavering pain issues because I test positive for the other things that have all the other symptoms.

Lawyer up immediately, I know some that will take up your case for free and if you win then they take payment. Make sure you have as many documented visits with your doctor, hospital, and even therapist if possible. Include ALL of your medical issues and I mean all of them. If it is documented and confirmed by a professional it counts. Do not let the system step all over you, they are patiently waiting for you to get aggravated and give up. It took me a total of five years because I had no clue I could appeal and get a lawyer after the first denial. Make sure you push hard for an appeal as soon as you get denied. Do not wait for multiple denials. They will take you to a judge for an appeal and the judge will decide. You have a better chance with a judge then the system itself.

People don't belive that I have PTSD since I am so young. It is very helpful to have a doctor, psychiatrist or therapist note. I always worked with a therapist note and usually that works for me. Although if needed lawyers are always good! Find a good one that will fight for you. It is always nice having someone on your side, just in case.

Make sure you get all your medical documents in order. Every time you go to Doctor, specialist or er get it notated. Alot of people get denied many of times. Just don't give up hire a lawyer they only take a percentage of the amount. Stay strong they want people to get frustrated and give up.
