Has anyone else had problems with SSRIs and SNRIs and found that only benzodiazepines help with their panic disorder? I’ve gotten a gene test done and for the few non-addictive medications that are suggested, most I’ve had worsened anxiety or other bad physical symptoms.

Yeah there are definitely some downsides to it— I’ve tried some ones in the green and they haven’t worked out for me too. So it narrows it down but doesn’t give you a definitive answer. I think it’s helped more in knowing what not to try

Also, it shows meds in each category like antidepressants, benzos, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, etc. And your potential interaction with them. It shows how you metabolize these meds and basically the pathways they go through in order for you to digest them, etc and what meds you would be more sensitive to because of these genetic factors

You have to get it ordered through a provider but you essentially just swab your cheeks and send it in to a medical entity (I used GeneSight) and they tell you what medications are in the red, green and yellow for you (which will have the least and most side effects, not necessarily which ones will help). This is more for people who have had issues with tolerating multiple medications and it can help with eliminating medications that will only cause more issues. Not sure what the criteria is but I believe you have to have tried three or four medications already and it should be somewhat covered by most insurances. I had to pay $200 for mine which was not cheap but I believe it was worth it

What does a gene test entail?

I’m so glad I’m not the only one !! Ativan is the only thing that’s helped me
