I recently tried to talk to a close group of friends about my illness, having to discuss emotional triggers and boundaries related to my disease. I was basically told that my feelings were wrong because their intentions were good. (if you want more details lmk) Now I'm feeling worse about this friend group. Any tips or stories about trying to manage friendships who don't understand your disease?

Not sure the exact situation but I've shared the spoon story with people like that and it has helped in the past.

omg exactly! I had a person in college try to convince me eating a tapeworm would help me 😐

That sucks! I’ve had friends in the past that have tried to educate me on my illness like we don’t know anything about as if it’s not happening to us lol? Your feelings are 100% valid. I think a lot of people think it’s rude to ask questions if they’re really that curious, but in reality it’s rude to assume because you’ve read whatever article you did on the disease or illness.

It makes me so mad when people won't just accept responsibility for hurting other people's feelings. You don't have to mean to, you would still say sorry hitting someone with your car on accident, so say sorry when you do it with emotions.

@StonedRaccoon Same! It's so weird with this group, very obvious double standards. I think they don't want to face that they were kinda ableist and arrogant so they're just like, "....no." lol

Ugh that sounds so invalidating. Once you have set your boundaries you have 100% done your part. You are allowed to follow through on them. Sending care your way 💕
