i haven't been diagnosed with BPD, but i show lot of the symptoms. my therapist doesn't think i have it. they're very big into the enneagram, and think it's just my personality. it frustrated her when i mentioned i thought i had it, and their response was; "why does everything have to be a mental illness?". my psychiatrist thinks i may have it, but hasn't really made any moves for a screening. i'm at a loss, as if it's just my personality, it sort of makes me feel shitty.. (not saying those with BPD are shitty people)

@ChrisTea i've thought about weighing out my options for other therapists, but i'm honestly afraid. she's been great with everything else it's just.. idk tbh

I mean I’d honestly just find another opinion elsewhere. I was diagnosed as bipolar, knew that was wrong, and went somewhere else where I correctly got diagnosed with bpd. This also could be parts of your personality that don’t make it a disorder. And that’s fine too. If you go to someone else and they still say no maybe that should put your mind at ease too? Because it may be easier to treat stuff that’s not bpd. You could have a lot of the symptoms that come from other things that sound like bpd but are separate from one categorization. Which doesn’t make you invalid in any kind of way.

My old "therapist" told me that BPD makes you automatically a bad person, some of them truly just don't belong in their field. Hope you find a more supportive one soon ❤

Is there another therapist you can go to? Finding one that believes you and listens to you is so key.

Sounds like your therapist is pretty dismissive... i would stop seeing them if i were you :/

@T02 so far they've been really helpful, but i think i may havr to look for someone else.. which scares me a bit

"just your personality"? does your therapist know it's a /personality/ disorder? and that a pd is literally "just your personality"? i would ask your psych about getting a screening. maybe you don't have bpd, but if you think you might it's better to get evaluated so you can be treated properly if you do.

@sprite that's what i was thinking. i' definitely going to talk to my psych further about it.

You're therapist doesn't sound very supportive of your concerns, maybe you should ask your psych to help you get screening for BPD.

@SaviorOfRats she says that 4's on the enneagram get falsly diagnosed with BPD. which so happens to be my number. i want to get a screening. i'm already on mood stabilizers as is, and my psych says there's not much we'd be able to do about it. but just having the knowledge that i have it would put my mind at ease, and help with identifying why i have such difficulty with certain things
