basically spamming on here but whatever so basically I just don't get math I've tried so hard and still nothing I think im doing good then I get tests back and it's all F's and my parents get super mad and tell me I'm not trying or that I'm smart but not working hard enough I just feel so dumb and it's making my anxiety really bad with being constantly yelled at and not understanding anything how do I tell someone that I don't understand math without them saying it's all my fault?

Different people are good at different things! And even people who are "good at math" are usually good at different parts of it. I've got straight A's in a college-level math program, and I STILL have to look up logarithms every time I do them. It's okay to struggle with things sometimes <3

Hey! If you ever need help with math—seriously, ever—hit me up! I used to be a math tutor and I love teaching people, and I have a ton of great online resources that I’d love to share.

I had trouble with math for a while too but eventually I became a math tutor :) what helped me a lot is color coding the numbers. Feel free to message me if you want to talk or if you have any questions!

MsDarcy (love the username btw, P&P for life ❤️) and Suze are both very right. Everyone has different strong suits. I'm sorry you're struggling so much. Idk if this is helpful, but in my experience tutoring science and math classes, there seems to be what feels like a language barrier for some people in the subjects. Like, I may be "fluent" in algebra, but I'm completely "illiterate" in classical mechanics. It isn't that I CAN'T learn the subject, but it isn't the "language" I'm used to. The same goes for classes like ochem and physics for most people. You are trying to make your brain work in a way it isn't used to and for anyone that is SO FREAKING HARD, but for someone who already struggles with mental health issues? Oh hell no. It becomes a hundred times harder. Your brain is trying to survive, not stretch and bend and learn. It isn't a matter of trying harder or pushing more or anything. Sometimes that survival-mode brain is just not willing to accept new information. Sometimes it's how it's taught that doesn't work for you. Sometimes it's just a subject that your brain isn't especially wired for. I really resist saying that there are "math brained" people and "non-math brained" people bc studies show that people who are labeled (by self or others) as not math-y, consistantly do worse in math regardless of their actual aptitude. I believe anyone can learn anything, but that doesn't mean that that is where your future is going to be. I CAN learn biology, I HAVE learned a lot of biological concepts, it's nearly a third of my degree, but after undergrad, I am not touching biological study with a 10ft pole. It isn't my thing and that's fine. Learn what you can, seek help as much as you need, but take heart that this is not something you have to pursue for the rest of your life. I'm sorry your parents are being so mean about your learning. It breaks my heart whenever I hear about people who are punished for not understanding something. It isn't your fault. You are doing your best and making you feel bad about it isn't going to magically make you understand it. Please feel free to message with math or science questions! Always happy and willing to help with science and math education 😊

I bet you're probably very creative. I was terrible at math but I'm a good artist. If you're in school find out if there is one on one extra help. Hang in there.

@MsDarcy logs are the worst!! I'm graduating with degrees in biochemistry and physics w/ engineering emphasis and I still don't remember which part of the log corresponds to which part of the exponential. smh. Not really relevant to the original post, I'm sorry, but I just related so strongly
