Anyone have advice on convincing my mom to go see a doctor? She's a heavy smoker and she's been coughing a lot throughout the day and even at night recently, and it continues to get worse. I've tried to tell her to see a doctor, but she won't listen. I'm worried about her.

Unfortunately you're Fighting an uphill battle. She knows that smoking is hurting her but her physician going to tell her to stop smoking, she doesn't want to hear that so she'll put off going as long as she can. All you can do is love her through it. If you're frustrated, which is reasonable, tell her that it's because you're worried and you love her. Unfortunately I think you may have to give into the fact that she doesn't want to hear that she has to quit therefore she's not going to go.

For most people who are heavy smokers won't ever see a doctor. It's an addiction, and you probably won't be able to help her. You can always try and say "hey your life is dwindling from your smoking and this is a pretty big problem. I want you to know that your killing your self." But if you've already tried you just have to accept that she won't get help. Sadly most people don't quit there addictions.

Maybe have her switch to vape if she wont listen to you to go see a doc! If she doesnt want to quit, she wont. ❤️
My dad is also a HEAVY smoker, you’ll never see him without a coffee in one hand and a ciggy in the other. Unfortunately my dad also has many other health conditions including 20% lung capacity and he no longer cares. I’m 20 and my father isn’t going to live to see me having any kids or go graduate college or anything like that. Tell her she’s shortening her life, you will both miss so much of each others lives unless she at least slows down. Don’t tell her to quit, that’s just going to stress her out and make her want to light up. Just tell her to be mindful of how much she is smoking, bring up that it’s an expensive habit and that it stinks or something like that. Telling her to quit will do nothing, give her *reasons* as to why she should. I hope she listens ❤️
@Jo420 I'll try that, thank you so much
@Jo420 Also the vape idea someone else commented wouldn’t be a bad idea. I was a heavy smoker but cut waaaaay down when I started vaping and I don’t even vape much. It’s just nice to carry around
Get her a lil cig flavored vape and see if she likes it
@BenjaminDover sadly we can't afford anything like vape, it's too expensive where we live :/
@BenjaminDover That's a fantastic idea! I used to smoke, although not a ton, but once I started on a vape I have never looked back. It was the best decision I ever made. Not to mention the fact that it's so much cheaper! Of course I still smoke said vape and have no desire to wean myself from it but I still think it's better than cigarettes, or at least that's what I tell myself. LOL We can justify anything can't we?
I don’t think it’s any way to influence her to go! Something is going to eventually push her to go. It may not be the cough it may be something else.
