I was just wondering how y'all were explained what HS is cuz I still really don't understand it. I was told that the HS causes yeast, which cause boils & when they burst it causes yeast, so to me that sounds like a never ending cycle. I have been living with (or at least diagnosed with) HS for a couple of years now. I have breakouts quite frequently & use Nystatin powder but I still don't really understand it plz help.

@E_belli Accidentally sent too soon. The sh*itty thing is that it cannot be cured but it CAN be managed. With diet, meds and lifestyle changes. I hope you find something that works for you.
HS was explained to me as an (obviously) painful auto-inflammatory skin condition that causes abscesses in your apocrine glands (sweat glands) that can turn into an infection in all your sensitive areas & where skin rubs together. And that it's basically like dramatic and over-reactive sweat glands. The hair follicles with the sweat glands get kinda plugged up and that is where the abscess comes in that can easily turn into bacterial infection (where the pus and ouch comes from) and they form tunnels under your skin which can also drain. Really I found the myHSteam(.com) to be very helpful. You can learn more about it and talk to ppl who have it too. Mine started when I was a young teen and was diagnosed 12 years ago (at 18). I also get flare-ups often, I generally have at least 2-3 spots at any given moment. eMuaid is something that works well for me (sometimes) and I also heard vicks vaporub helps with pain BEFORE they break open. Haven't tried it yet, just got the Vicks.
Basically it is infected sweat glands. Manuka honey is good for the wounds.

I was basically told that i have a hormonal imbalance that makes my glands hyperactive while also having an inflammatory issue that makes it really easy to get infections.

It's not yeast, it's actually sebum! As far as explaining it to others, I say, "I have a skin condition that causes pockets of infection to form on super sensitive areas of my body." It may not be 100% accurate, but to the layperson, it makes sense.

I've been having since I was 16 and I still don't get it. I just know it doesn't go away and it's a skin condition. There is a lot more info about it since I started having flare ups. Some of the videos I have watched on yt talks about diet and detox.
@Lon7 have u found anything that helps during a flare up? I use Nystatin powder & I have tried the creams but they make my skin feel greasy & that's disgusting
@Gigglezsmurf during before it comes to a head I use a wash cloth as hot as I can take it, but after I a greasy mess with gauze, but I use aquaphor.
