I've had this friend for awhile. they started out really nice but became controlling, making me follow rules and if I don't they lecture me. they say it's because they care about me, but I feel like they just like having this power over me. I want to block them, but I don't know how I can mentally handle doing it
That sounds extremely toxic and controlling. You have to think about the future, how long would this continue if you don’t block them? Or how will this further impact your mental health?
Do you have any support, any other friends that you can fall back on if you block them? I do urge you to block them. This does sound very toxic and not good for your well being
Ditch em! They're only using you as a means to feel in control of someone. You're not their whipping boy. Literally just tell them that and walk away. It's a control issue, he or she is probably a malignant narcissist. Look that up; knowledge is power.
