Living with VSD: My Journey So Far

hello, i’ve had VSD my whole life. luckily it was caught when i was only about 1-ish and it’s been closely monitored ever since then, and now i’m 20. i go to the cardiologist every 3-ish years to track its progress. im very very lucky that i haven’t had any complications due to this condition. my mom reminds me of this whenever my VSD gets brought up and i’m filled with intense guilt that so many others were affected negatively and hurt and i’m alright. sorry this might have been a little over share, but ive never met anyone else who has this condition and i would love if i could hear from anyone else what their journey has been like.

      I have it currently at 4 open heart surgeries and I know how you feel! I see how negatively my parents, siblings, and even other relatives life's suffered due to my condition. It's hard to think about honestly. I've been thinking of going to therapy about it my mom thinks I have survivors guilt and I believe her. It's not over sharing and if you ever want to talk about that guilt you're more than welcome to contact me because I understand what you're going through.

      I have it. Found out and got it fixed at age 3. Have follow ups about every 2 years and I’m good now. I can understand how you feel guilty you are ok and others might have had it worse. But it’s not your fault for that. You had no choice in that. Best thing is to be grateful for your health and spread awareness to vsd. Teach others and share your story so people can learn about it. Never know who could be listen and be the next surgeon to help someone or next scientist to come up with the newest treatment for it. Sending hugs! 💜

      Me and my dad both have it my dad was alot worse than mine and DO NOT FEEL GUILTY
