I’m really struggling to get an official diagnosis for ASD, even though my therapist and PCP agree I’m on the spectrum. Any advice for late diagnosis in women?

Going through the same thing. I’ve seen three different social workers who said I’m on this spectrum but they weren’t officially able to diagnose me so I’ve been looking for somewhere that does and is familiar with diagnosing adult women.

Im 28, female, and i just went through the diagnostic process after waiting for a year and a half on the list (and since 2014, when i found out myself and went through the whole greiving and acceptance process). And guess what the result was after hours of tiring tests..."probably." It was so disappointing! He wouldnt commit to an answer. But after talking with him on Zoom from the comfort of my home (follow up to discuss the results), I was able to be me without masking, and he decided he was quite sure. Still wouldnt commit to a yes, but its good enough for me. I already know, have known for years, honestly. My takeaway is that an "official diagnosis" isnt the be-all-end-all. But it does seem to matter to the NTs in your life who dont believe you otherwise. Hope this perspective helps.

I'm in the same situation right now, I'm really nervous to ask my doctor about it even though I've had therapists in the past agree that I'm on the spectrum, I just don't want to be immediately shut down because I "look" neurotypical in public.

I recommend asking your pcp to refer you to a psychologist and ask them to do a full psych eval so you aren't missing anything, so in the off chance you don't have autism you know what it is
