Hi! So I am neurodivergent, I have only been diagnosed with ADD, major depressive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. I personally feel like these diagnoses shouldn’t make me feel the way I do. I have such a hard time focusing and getting things done, so much so, it’s even hard to maintain a job because I just can’t understand things correctly and/or retain information enough to do so. And my memory is another issue I have, which also plays into making it hard for me to retain information. It’s like I live life with things going in one ear and out the other. Does anyone else feel this way? If so, how do you manage it?

I have the worst time staying focused and grasping new concepts. I’m a preschool teacher! It helps because we need to be all over the place anyway and the concepts are easy!

So I’m hoping this may help some of you, but I taught band for 5 years, had all the same issues and problems you all described above, and it’s taken me a master degree in psychology and the Internet (LOL) to find I may be on the spectrum. If you think “Sheldon cooper” from the Big Bang theory but I am way more emotional. But people get confused since ASD is confusion or inability to have emotion. Well, it’s true I don’t know how to read people or interpret directly what they say because I’m learning a brand new set of reactions to a brand new person. Life overwhelms me so much and my very first mental illness diagnosis was depression, I added anxiety at 19, and at 26 it became Adhd. I go for my doctors appointment tomorrow and it may be autistic at 27.

Omg yes!!! Someone put it into words! My memory is awful these days and I can’t focus to save my life. I used to get really frustrated with myself when it would happen but that only made it worse. I’ve found that organizing with notes and planners is helpful.

Yes!!! It is one of the most frustrating things ever! I’m a nurse, and I especially struggle with remembering and prioritizing. The only way I’ve survived this job is with medication and writing EVERYTHING down! I still have to ask people (like doctor’s) to repeat things literally ALL the time.
