do any other abuse victims here have nightmares about their abuser but like, not in the way people think? i very rarely have nightmares about the actual abuse or about being abused at all, but i have VERY frequent (like, almost every night) dreams that are fairly normal but just happen to involve my abuser. for example, last night i dreamt that i was moving in with her, so we were planning and renting a truck and getting everything together. even though the dream was completely normal and nothing bad happened, i still woke up feeling sick and anxious and its all i can think about all day, just because she was involved in it. logically i know im not being stupid or crazy, but it makes me feel that way because why am i getting stressed out over a totally normal dream?? how do you guys cope with dreams about your trauma? because i still havent figured out anything that works for me.

Dreams can be a manifestation of your subconscious— if they’re showing up, it means that they’re taking up rent space in your brain. What they represent brings you stress, and since you likely are pushing their impact on your life down, it’s coming out in your sleep. That’s my theory anyway, a game theory
