I hate when people assume I'm being extra or seeking attention when it comes to my mental health.. like how do you know that?? are you me?? EXACTLY!!!

also the implication that seeking attention is bad, as though it's not an intrinsic human need

@wise Seeking attention is such a sin to people for some reason? Like do you want to be neglected and ignored I don't understand 😭

My family does the same to me!! They just don’t understand us. But don’t believe the lies that we are over dramatic. The mental challenges we face are real.

I have gone through that my entire life. I use to get bullied in school because no one understood my weirdness unless l explained that I have Autism and that I am not crazy. I get people to this day asking me why are you looking at me when I get uncomfortable I start looking around surrounding areas. It's horrible to the point that I don't still understand it.

also what's even wrong with wanting attention. humans are highly social. lack of attention is bad for us. especially lack of attention to legitimate problems.

I totally agree! I work in mental health, But I don’t like to cross my personal mental illnesses with that (except here!) bc if you mention it you’re deemed crazy or attention seeking. But nobody calls a diabetic attention seeking if they talk about their diabetes. And if people do acknowledge it they say something like -oh you don’t look like you have bipolar- or that you’re not depressed enough if you’re high functioning as if it is some kind of compliment when it is completely invalidating. I hate it!

@E_belli honestly women with diabetes, especially larger women, definitely do get called attention seeking for talking about it. or blamed for it. /pos

@AriEden yes! you are 100% right. That definitely has its own set of stigma for sure. That was a bad example.

My family all thought I was dramatic and lazy- turns out it was just ADHD and bipolar disorder

I wish she understood just from who I am that I wouldn't make stuff like this up

Ugh one time as a kid, my sister called me a hypochondriac, and I still haven't recovered from how that made me feel

At a location I used to work at (still work for the company just in a different location), my management did not think I had a problem at all. They believed that it's just a phase and that I need to get over myself. Nobody knows what we deal with and they act like they know what's best for us when they don't know first hand experience.

Yes!! I’m looking for understanding and connections!! And sure I talk about mental health a lot but it’s because it’s apart of my LIFE.
