Hi how do you cope with brain fog from fibromyalgia?

I work in the medical field and brain fog affects me once in a while, but when it does, I can’t seem to concentrate, think clearly, talk. I don’t do any vaccines when braking fog is active. I work with children.. I usually tell my supervisor and she is very understanding. But I haven’t figured out how to cope with it. Nothing helps.. I feel helpless. I feel like only sleep would help, but never had brain fog at home where I can sleep if needed. It’s so frustrating.

@Annye Just curious does it happen more when you're super busy? Stress and lack of sleep (or simply being tired) makes brain fog worse. I've never figured out how to make it lessen or go away during an attack. I only know what helps me through it, which is lists, alarms and a reminder app. Also, slowing down so I can pay closer attention to what I am doing. I am glad your supervisor is understanding.

Lists and timers and reminders and calendar apps. I also have them all on my home screen so they're easier to see. I still get super frustrated when I can't think straight but I'm trying to be kinder to myself and treating myself how I would others

Lists and a reminder app on my phone. I would not survive without my lists!! My brain fog and forgetfulness is getting worse, due to other health issues. I get so frustrated and angry at myself. I can't do things that I used to do automatically without a list, nor more than 2 things at a time. For example: Thanksgiving meal. I had to have everything I was making written on the whiteboard. I had them categorized into steps and in order of when to do them. If I didn't do that I would have forgot things and probably burned something because I had too many things going at once. @TabbysMom I totally understand forgetting names of things. I do that constantly! It is so annoying.

@dolphinblues oh honey! My roommate is currently undergoing radiation. So all the Thanksgiving meal fell on me, for 4 people. I had a notebook with detailed lists! For days in advance. Everything I could do in advance. I mean I had daily to do lists for days in advance. You are not alone! I try not to beat myself up. It is not my fault. Those lists save me! But yet I get frustrated because I need them. 🤔

@TabbysMom yes! We need to be kind and patient with ourselves. It sucks needing lists for eveything,, but it's a necessity for us. Doing Holiday meals all by yourself isn't easy. I've done it my whole adult life. With the exception of the lighter tasks, like setting things out, cutting the cheese and sausage, etc. But, the hot stuff was always just me. It never bothered me until I lost the ability to move faster and remember what was not only needed but how to do it. I can imagine how you felt, especially if it was the first time you have had to do it alone. Thank goodness for lists! I have to do prep list and to do lists for days before also, or I will, at the very least, forget to bake the pies. 😆 May Christmas dinner be a success for us both! 🤗

Lists, lists & more lists. A daily "log" of things I have to do & attempt to be patient. That log of daily chores is a life saver. What drives me crazy is not being able to name an object. I can tell someone all about the object but not the name of it. So very annoying! Bless my roomie's heart, she just points to everything around her until I yell yes.
