PTSD nightmares or other nightmare experiences? I am looking to find a new med that works and helps those symptoms? Do you take any meds? Is there one that helps the most? And does it make you sleepy in the morning?

@superstellar I have tried Trazodone before. Maybe 13 years ago. It def made me sleep! Lol. I was knocked out for sure. The thing that didn't work for me was the morning hangover! It was killer and did affect my ability to function. Also @dolphinblues -- sleep paralysis is terrifying!! So sorry!

hi! for me, trazodone has put me to sleep and caused me to have no nightmares though it’s not specifically for PTSD, but it does leave you VERY tired in the morning. i wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have trouble sleeping T^T

@superstellar I tried Trazadone, not for nightmares though. It did help me sleep, but I had sleep paralysis while on it. In the morning when I woke up I was not able to move for a few minutes. It was quite scary.

Prazosin, I had to go up on my dose a few times but it’s the only thing I’ve found that that doesn’t make me drowsy in the am
@r.augustus that is gotta leave I to know! It sows sound like a humanwhich is they bee. There to help her. So to see what I agrees on till the his ordering his order bell. We think I was hilarious. I'd like to actually have a first kids with a raondo than usual. Does it help on a consistent day or periodically?
Prozac is the best
@SecondChance I do agree with that. I consider it one of my miracle drugs. Only second to Vyvanse. It has helped me with so much, some It is suga mama necessarily. Especially OCD. I'm sure with the trauma true. I don't onwbly other things but those are the really don't want to freak me up. Lol. And I have a flat right now so it is hard to get to his
My sister has taken risperidone and did well with it.
@dolphinblues I was on risperidone for about 8 years. It did me well too! Been off of it for 3-4 months.
I'm meeting with my doctor tomorrow and I'm going to see if there's anything else
@cheerAsh0485 let me know how to goes! I can't get into mine till March but I think imma call and leave a message. See if that works. Good luck!
I take prazosin (minipress) for nightmares. It works really well and doesn't cause me any side effects. It does not make you sleepy either.

@ThunderBeetle I'm so glad to hear that! Especially the no side effects. Thanks for sharing!
I take 0.2mg of clonidine at night and that's been a game changer for me. It dramatically reduced the amount of nightmares I have. I still get them once in a while, but asm long as I take my clonidine every night they are very rare. They also help me fall asleep. They do cause a bit of daytime drowsiness in some people, but ive never found it too bad. I even take 0.1mg in the morning to help with other ptsd and anxiety symptoms with no problem so i dont think the drowziness is too bad. Clonidine lowers blood pressure and heart rate though so not everybody can take it.
@SugarRushed I read about clonidine somewhere but hadn't heard from anyone who takes it. Good to know! I've very glad it works for you. Great to have another option. Thank you for sharing, fabulous news!
I have tried sertraline but I'm now on venaflaxine the Dr has me on 250mg in morning 150mg at night but I still have constant flashbacks nightmares ect xx
@loner.girl venlafaxine is just a high spec antidepressant hunni, so you need to ask for something else for the nightmares x
@loner.girl ugh I'm so sorry! Hopefully, the venlafaxine starts to help! Have you been on it long?

Hello! I'm on sertraline for depression and anxiety and I have no adverse reactions. I was just prescribed a new Rx for me, for nightmares and night terrors. I've only been on it for 4 days and it seems to be working!! 🙏🏽😴 It's not a sleeping pill but I feel a little drowsy about 20 after taking it. I don't feel any residual grogginess when I wake up in the morning. So far, so good!! It's called Prazosin and it's prescribed for PTSD nightmares (as well as a few other ailments). You should research it and talk to your doctor! Best wishes!
@JadaBliss I was on sertraline for white a while but it was giving me gastro side effects so I had to stop that and I hit the max dose and it will wasn't working. Prozac helps a lot. And yes! Glad you said that- prazosin is the one I'm thinking of. I was on it almost 10 years ago. And I think it worked but I honestly don't remember. So I plan to call my psych tmro to make an earlier appt than march 20th which is when I am scheduled. I'm glad you said that. Thank you for sharing 🙂
I was on sertraline and stopped it as it caused really realistic dreams (because of trauma they usually turned out to be night mares or involve some trauma) and so I stopped them. I sometimes have small daydreams including trauma and rarely some dreams but not as bad, that’s it. Not sure if you are on antidepressants but they can cause bad dreams as that was my experience x
