Does anyone take Gabapentin for IC pain and does it help?

I took gabapentin for my fibromyalgia and I ended up having to still have installations in my bladder for the IC so I would say that it doesn't necessarily help as like an overall solo medication. It may help you if you experience other nerve-related pains along with your interstitial cystitis.

I had no such luck with gabapentin for my IC as a matter a fact switching to lyrica and taking the oxybutin and hydroxyzine has really helped. But I may have to start working on my pelvic floor PT again.

@MagickalRebel would you be willing to tell me more about oxybutin? My primary issues are pain and pressure but I do have some frequency.

@Fayra So I found the oxybutin helped with frequency, and some pressure. But I did still experience it while dealing with stress or not drinking water. I have also used Valium suppositories, and that has helped. I take oxybutin twice a day, and it has stopped me from needing installations into the bladder. But when you so a view into the bladder it's still got the marks of inflammation on it but it doesn't feel as bad.

@MagickalRebel thanks for the feedback! Iā€™m not sure I could tolerate lyrica. I struggled so much on Cymbalta to the point it almost put me in the hospital. What has it been like for you?

@Fayra See and I felt like I was going crazy on Cymbalta and in a dangerous way.. different bodies have those different reactions and sounds like we had something similar. Lyrica has been good to me, I have to finally up the dose after a year. And I should preface I maxed out my dosage with gabapentin with still experiencing symptoms. I still have flare ups but nothing too awful.

I take gabapentin for neuropathy and it doesnā€™t go anything for my IC. I do take Claritin for my IC though and it helps a lot

@100Percent_K thanks for the feedback. Iā€™m also trying it for nerve pain but have been hoping it will help both.

@Fayra have they tried a pudendal nerve block? That does help IC pain sometimes!

I took gabapentin for fibro but it didnā€™t touch my IC. Have you tried aloe Vera yet? Or prelief? They are the only things that have helped me! I know amitryptaline is a great one too, I just had some side effects

@Belugabear hi, thanks for the feedback! I do take aloe Vera, prelief, and quercitin everyday which has helped. I took amitriptyline for several years but came off it and canā€™t tolerate for some reason now. I have other nerve pain issue though too. Iā€™ve tried noratriptiline, amitriptyline, Cymbalta.. and now Iā€™m about to try gabapentin. Iā€™m super sensitive to everything it seems like.

@Fayra got it, itā€™s definitely worth the try! Pregabalin is the only thing that touched my pain but the side effects were brutal. Ketamine is truly what made me feel better in the end!
