It might be because our own moods can sometimes affect others. There is a "tension" in the room. The aura you emit can be sensed by others and cause them to be wary. You aren't actually causing anyone depression though. Some people are just able to detect these things easily, especially if they have high levels of empathy. It's why customer service workers are so darn nice all the time. Happy workers may trick a customer to be happy too.
