i can’t wait to get better. i always read stories about people who overcame/learned to cope with depression and anxiety, trying to give myself hope. i just don’t have motivation to do anything. i’m 24 and i’ve never had a normal job. i have to force myself to get out of bed, to shower, to sit in the living room instead of my room all day. i don’t enjoy the things i use to as a kid. i use to adore video games, i played hours a day, but now i can barely get enough courage to do that. i turn on my pc in hopes i’ll get the spark to do so randomly, but it never comes. i buy exciting games in hopes i’ll play them and reignite my love. but it doesn’t. i can’t wait to experience life without mental illness, i can’t wait for the day i no longer need medication to keep myself stable. i can’t wait to live, not just survive.

      I hear you and see that you are hurting and struggling. It can be so very hard and overwhelming when you are in the middle of it. Some people "overcome" their depression by learning skills to cope with life and building healthy habits. And some manage with medications. And some need both. Medication isn't inherently wrong or bad. When you meet someone who is diabetic - you don't tell them that they don't need to depend on insulin for the rest of their lives, they can overcome their diabetes. That same way, treat yourself with kindness. Depression is often a lack of good neurotransmitters that help you to function. Altered brain chemistry is as much your fault as a pancreas that doesn't make enough insulin is a diabetics fault. Human bodies are weird and fallible.

      It's been 17 years since I've first got an anxiety but I've only had anxiety attacks for half of that time. No it's been 3 months since my last major panic attack. I have had at least two times where I've had depression that was temporary.

      i sometimes think that, too, that i can't wait to get better. it's been so long that i've been stuck in this survival state, just hoping and wishing to heal and lead some semblance of a normal life. it's comforting to know that there are others looking to that vision of a "one day..." while presently fighting mental illness. i'm rooting for you, OP.

        @tjazz I completely agree. I finally started making progress on healing my depression when I accepted that I would likely need medications for the rest of my life. There's no shame in needing medications for your depression, OP.
