I currently am waiting on the state to email me a link so I can become a certified peer supporter. since I've taken my classes a couple weeks ago I haven't heard anything. I've already had a job offer but can't get her to get back to me either. I've had 15 years of sobriety thanks to mat but I'm currently stressing out. haven't worked since March due to things keep getting pushed back..... I was extremely happy after I finished the classes but now I feel like I have one foot off the ledge... I'm not asking anything specific I would just like to talk to some people and get their perspective. thank you

Congratulations that's exciting!! I'm currently in college to get my bachelor's degree in psychology and I want to be a drug abuse counselor :) I love to hear this stuff. I'm sorry that they haven't gotten back to you I would just keep emailing or calling them every few days don't be pushy but just show them that your extremely interested I hope this helps ❤️ and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that they get back to you 🤞 also congrats on 6 years that's amazing I'm going on 8 months this month 🙏💕

@Suzie12 congratulations on 8 months! I'm THRILLED to hear you want to get into that field. It makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE when the counselor actually does know what the client is feeling and went through. You seriously just made my day! I've come across way too many counselors that just don't care and in this state that's crazy because you def don't get rich doing it. You have to really want to help people to do this. I'm always available to talk if you need and I'm ALWAYS willing to learn new things from my peers. Keep up the great work!

@BIGGjon I completely agree that's why I decided on this field. I have had plenty of counselors that were supposed to be there to "help me" but ended up just scaring me more than actually helping me

Congrats on 15 years sober! I have 6 years 😊 And congrats on getting your certification! What exactly does a peer supporter do? It sounds like something I'd be interested in doing. I am someone who believes that EVERYTHING happens for a reason and that if you pay attention, God/ the Universe/whatever higher power you believe in is giving you signs all the time. I know not everyone believes the way I do, but it has gotten me through a LOT

@Bugaboo and congrats on your 6 years! I absolutely agree with you that everything happens for a reason and whatever higher power you have will show you things. I'm just getting really frustrated playing the waiting game and I'm trying like hell to work on my patience but........ anyway, I'm not sure what state you're in and what they offer but here in Ohio it is all pretty new and they are behind on pay etc but it's still acceptable. What peer support is is you basically help people that have led similar lives as you. Whether it be substance abuse or mental health. They pretty much go hand in hand with peer support. You have to take 11 classes on e based academy website and then take a week long (40) hour class. After that a background check and a state test and you're good to go. If you are interested I can give you more in depth details if you wanna chat about it. It's essentially you making a living helping others by having certain life experiences. It's getting mandated that any substance abuse or metal health organizations or businesses MUST have a peer support team in place as they have an easier time relating to people.
