Hey, I wanted to see if there's any type 1 diabetics that take antidepressant / anxiety medication? or anyone that started antidepressants/anxiety medicine what side effects did you experience when you first started taking them? I was prescribed Venlafaxine and I was able to pick it up but now I'm having a lot of anxiety for me to start taking these after reading possible side effects. I just want to know if anyone can help me out here and shine some good light on it (I guess) because I want to get better.

Noooooo don’t Ik everyone different but venlafaxine one of the worst ones for withdraw/side effects nd even when I missed one day I would feel the withdraw, the annoying brain zaps nd I would get anxiety,, but I can’t tell u what to do
Venlafaxine really helped me. The side effects only occur when you forget a dose. So if you decide to take it, just don’t forget to take it ON TIME!

@Shamalama thank you so much for your reply it helps to know that I'm not alone
I'm a type 1 diabetic and I take Cymbalta 90mg and buspirone 5mg twice a day and have no side effects (diabetes related)
@Countryrebel95 thank you so much for sharing I really appreciate you taking the time
I have type one and I also have lupus. I’m on Prozac
@Sheek thank you for sharing, did you have any side effects? When you first start taking it did you worry about the side effects?
I was put on antidepressants it made me sick so I go without and most of the time I feel better off them than on them they just make you numb so you can't feel anything they are not a cure
@kikki thank you for sharing I know they are not a cure. It was an option I'm given that I am willing to try. I just wanted to know how it affected people. So, thank you again for letting me know.
@kikki wow, I've been on different antidepressants to see what helped me. They never made me numb so I couldn't feel anything. Some people have a chemical imbalance and use these meds as a tool. Of course they aren't a cure, but they can definitely help people; especially when used with other helpful treatments, such as therapy.
@Smilove22 I've tried so many different happy pills that I'm pretty sure I've been on pretty much all of them. Now I'm on 90 mg of cymbalta daily, 45 mg of buspirone daily, and Ritalin la daily.
I'm a type 1 diabetic and on 2 antidepressants. What are you trying to figure out?
@Smilove22 honestly at first I was so again starting meds for my anxiety and depression. But recently I've been having horrible panic attacks and my doctor and therapist both agree that I should start. My problem is is I'm having anxiety about starting new meds especially because side effects worry me. Did any of the side effects affect your diabetes? Or how you handle your diabetes? Did you even have any side effects? I'm sorry I know it's a lot of questions but other people that I have asked that are not type 1 diabetic it was 50/50 some had great experiences and it helped them and they've been on it for years some immediately got off of it because it made things worse for them at least that's what they said.
@J0421 I've found that I do better by not reading the side effects. When I do, I feel like I'm having all of them. I do look up any interaction they might have with my other meds. I take Cymbalta which helps with my neuropathy pain. I've had to try different ones to see what worked for me. It's hard to be patient and see how it works for you, as it takes a while to get to a therapeutic level. I personally don't know if any of them raise blood sugar, but I know that after mine started working my sugar was lower. We know how much stress and anxiety raises our sugar, so having less of it helped bring my sugar down. I know it's scary, but it may end up helping
