I just found out I'm allergic to gluten....while being vegan. The amount of food I can eat has dwindled even more and it's been really stressful. Can anyone else relate?

      This is honestly exactly why I gave up on trying to go completely vegan. I now focus more on getting my nutrition and making sure my food is sustainably sourced, organic and the like. I struggled for many years with trying to limit my animal product intake only to realize I was malnourished and struggling in a different way. While it's not as bad as having a full-blown gluten attack it's still a rough way to live. No energy, no motivation, no drive. Now I honestly focus on getting as much protein as I can, I'm pretty keto if you want to label it. At the end of the day you are one person out of almost 9 billion people on this planet and your efforts to save the planet by being vegan are limited best as far as changing the world goes. However as far as changing your world goes, you definitely are going to benefit from branching out into at least a vegetarian lifestyle. I don't know what your reasons for being vegan are but remember that there are many ways to change the planet and you have to be realistic about what you can handle. Chicken broth is my best friend when I'm having an episode, however mine are triggered buy more than just gluten but in general acidity levels and healthy gut biome in general so I do live a primarily plant-based diet however if I have the opportunity to be a part of the growth and killing of the animals that I intake then I am the first in line. I pray over them and make it very clear how grateful I am that their sacrifice of life will bring me nourishment

      Yeah I can definitely relate. I'm sensitive to gluten, dairy, and possibly soy so I tend to eat the same meals everyday lately. Also as someone who is a bit underweight, my food restrictions definitely don't help me gain weight :/

        @Berry63 those are my big 3. Dm if you want to chat - I don't find many people who have all of the same restrictions I do. It was really hard when I first started taking my allergies and sensitivities seriously, but now I am able to eat a varied and interesting diet. You don't have to eat the same thing everyday!

      I have to follow the FODMAP and GERD diets pretty strictly so, while not vegan, I do hear you on restrictive eating. Corn and rice are safe foods. Be careful of oats, as they are contaminated if grown too close to wheat.

      I could never be vegan. Not because I like meat too much - I really couldn't care less about it - but because I'm allergic to soy and gluten-intolerant (also lactose intolerant, but obviously wouldn't be an issue for being vegan) and I have sensory issues with beans... soo no protein for me. Having allergies to common things like gluten and soy and diets like vegan where sooooo many "normal" foods are off-limits can be crushing. I have a dish towel that says "gluten-free... and starving" bc it seriously feels like that sometimes. I understand the pain and frustration of having a tough time finding foods that fit all the criteria our bodies give us. I mean, I used to always say that my worst nightmare was to have to be gluten-free and dairy-free. All my favorite foods were HEAVILY gluten-y and dairy-y. And sure enough, here I am. Still alive... still a little bitter. What I've learned in my relativly short journey with it (~2 years of taking it seriously) is that you find more and more things that ARE safe. Lucky Charms, Cherios, potato chips, Cheetos, Doritos, tortilla chips, rice, rice noodles - all gluten-free and soy-free (or can commonly be found gf, sf). Also like @bananaz said, making your own stuff is usually best. That way you can make sure it checks off all the boxes you need to check off. The internet has a wealth of recipes and ideas, there are hundreds of dedicated GF cookbooks, you can even adapt old recipes by using GF flours and stuff. There are a lot of options, hope is not lost! You're not alone in your food struggles ❤

      Hi! In a very similar boat except i simply avoid gluten because it hurts me and i eat eggs. Its tough!! I find making my own gluten free things is better than all the processed stuff on the market. Experiment with GF flours and check pinterest for recipes! Soups are great and also lots of rice based dishes like stir fry and curry. Other cultures that are not american are very friendly to this diet! Also rice noodles and potatoes are my best friends, highly recommend 👍🏼 good luck! I feel your struggle.
