I got broken up with back in August, it still feels so fresh. He was the first relationship post SA(2018) and the first male/male presenting person I trusted or felt safe with since my SA. We dated just 7 months but it felt like the world because I felt so safe, secure and happier than I had in years. While it was a relatively short relationship this is the hardest breakup I’ve gone through. Dating was hell and It felt worth it after getting into a partnership with him. I don’t know how to trust anyone, I don’t know how to let go of something that made me feel so safe in a world full of people and feeling that I am terrified of. How do people just trust strangers not to hurt them? I can’t remember what that is like.

Hiya! I just wanna let you know that you're not alone. I'm currently 3, almost 4 years into grieving that type of relationship. It can be difficult to trust, especially after the trauma of SA, but you'll find someone who will understand and be the support you need. May not come in the form of a partner, but they'll come into your life. Meanwhile make sure you're helping yourself. It can be so tempting to name a person your safety and security and on the same coin them not be able to stay around. It's cliché but my best advice is to take a self care journey before going back to dating. Trauma therapy is important, and unpacking the trauma can help you understand and get past those fears.
