I am feeling really frustrated because I’m having a hard time explaining to people what my limitations are in a way that they can understand. Right now a big struggle is with my significant other. For the most part they are considerate of my struggles and do not hold it against me. But I’ve started to notice that there are things they assume that to me are judgements of my struggles/not being accepting. Sometimes it’s small, sometimes it’s big but it feels like im not being understood or it’s being held against me. Maybe im overreacting.

It can be very frustrating, I explained to my SO the spoon theory(you can Google it) and it really helped for them to understand. My family however does not and that's been hard. Hopefully it gets better❤️ most ppl don't understand it and sometimes I get frustrated with myself. Ig it's part of the process, we have to hold on to hope!

Your frustration is completely valid. It’s incredibly hard to have narcolepsy- most people just can’t understand how much it affects every aspect of your life. I’ve found that the people closest to me who see the real struggle are the most understanding of what my needs and struggles are. So for your SO I’m hoping it just takes some more time for them to understand your struggles better.

I absolutely feel that way as well. I think part of the problem is that since non narcoleptics know what exhaustion feels like for themself, they have an idea of what the imagine our struggles feel like. They don't understand how much different their "tired" is from our "tired". Recently I've been trying to explain my body like a busted cell phone. When you plug it in it doesn't hold charge, it restarts itself randomly throughout the day, etc. Imagine how hard it would be to use your phone if it was glitching out on you and turning off without your control all the time. And it won't come off "battery saver" mode. Then i explain that my body has those same issues like the cell phone.

@out_of_orexin that is so well put! Our tired is so different from non-narcoleptics “tired” it’s so hard to explain

I feel the same way. Its really hard when they think its just being tired and.Brush it off. But my boyfriend has recently seen first hand what happens and is very hands on and understands
