there are LOTS of different coping mechanisms, too many to name. personally, what works for me is being artistic. my adhd drives me to ALWAYS be creating something. if i don't MAKE STUFF, i will perish. drawing, making music, putting random junk together with tape or glue, etc. try creating something
i go on walks, focusing on what i'm physically experiencing in the moment to get my mind off of how i'm feeling inside.
I listen to music to help. With me, at least, it brightens my mood.
