How are people so active on social media? Like I wish I was using social platforms to advocate for things like mental health and chronic illness and such but I don’t for many reasons. I want to share my story and show others that it’s okay to speak up and they aren’t alone. I guess I’m just scared no one’s gonna listen like in real life. I just want someone to hear me.

I completely understand. I feel the same! If I watch people on TikTok or YouTube I don't know how they do it! I have learned that doing stuff like that just isn't for me, and that's ok. We all get opportunities to help others, we just need to be ready for when we do. Instead of trying to advocate for mental health for everyone to hear, maybe you just need to advocate for your friend to hear, to help them get into therapy. Helping anyone is making a huge difference

I feel the same way; all I want to do is make a difference for others with all I’ve learned about my conditions. I want to work in psychology so bad, and being an advocate seems like it would be such a rewarding experience. But I struggle to find that organization and confidence to put myself out there. Something that has helped me a lot is following other disabled and neurodivergent advocates, and realizing that they don’t always post. They take time away from their social media when they need to, and no one thinks any less of them for it. I think it’s important to be able to be flexible with our chronic conditions, because it’s a tough battle to try and work in a way that’s going to lead us into burnout. I’ve also noticed with a lot of the advocates I follow, they share how they chose to start their social media pages. Most of them feel just like we do at one point or another, but they also seem to really feel good about pushing against those fears and having shared. I think it’s very worth the time to organize and write what you have to say, or make a video/voice recording. What you have to share is important, and it can be just as helpful to others to hear it as it is for you to say it. You are heard here, and you’re not alone! It’s okay to have these feelings, and you are strong enough to do what you want to do.

Hey if you ever need someone to talk to you can message me! You don't have to be super active on social media to be heard.. even just reposting stuff you see that you think can be helpful is a great way to start! Everyone starts with baby steps :))
