I started a new job last week. On my first day I had to go home early because I had a panic attack. It's getting better the more people I know. But since I have to serve new people all day it's hard to not start shaking or crying. I've had anxiety my whole life and can't seem to find any coping skills to help. Any suggestions?
Deep breathing helps me. Also, I never go anywhere without a cold bottle of water. When the panic attack hits, splash your face with cold water. This stimulates the vagus nerve, and will help calm you down. I also like to keep a calming oil with me. ❤️
Starting a new job is rough for anxiety and panic. I hope you’ve had a few more shifts since then and your anxiety has reduced somewhat? Also in my experience it helps to talk about/write down the things that stressed you out during work after your shift is over. That way during work you can feel safer in the fact that you have plenty of time designated to face and handle those strong emotions as soon as work is over.
