So many people keep saying “it gets better once you figure everything out” about my POTS but how long did it take for y’all’s POTS to get better?

@Ijinglewheniwalk trust me, I completely get that! I often feel like I’m milking it too but when I really look at the situation I’m reminded that I’m not doing it by choice, I just legitimately am struggling and it’s not “milking” it if it’s legitimate imo. I got diagnosed when I was 15. I've been through 4 different medications. Honestly, just making sure i eat enough salt and stay hydrated has done me better than the meds did. I don't really think there is a way to "figure it out" completely. For me personally, it changes day to day, even hour to hour some times. Especially since I'm breastfeeding. Liquid IV water packets help in a pinch. Lots of potato chips, salted nuts, crackers. Get a cute water bottle to keep you motivated.

@mommamoo I track my salt and get about 5k mg a day, is that enough? I haven’t seen much of a difference from before I tracked it (which made it range from 3k-6k). Also how do you drink liquid iv? It’s so bad I can’t get it down. Is there a secret?

I was diagnosed when I was about 12 and I am currently 20 and still “figuring it out.” I remember speaking to you on another question about things, and what helps, but honestly it comes and goes when it comes to “getting better.” I was better when I was 15 and the sickest I’ve ever been at 18. I’m slowly better now at almost 21 but my mom had the same happen but relapsed at 30 and didn’t get better for a couple of years. POTS comes with seasons and it’s a true balancing act, but at least you know techniques on how to make it better. For example, my mother didn’t have the luxury of a diagnosis in 1980, but she does now. Have you been consuming anything with artificial flavors or red dyes especially? I know that makes mine act up more, especially when it comes to dizziness and heart palpitations. You got this!

I wouldn’t necessarily say “it gets better” but more so “it gets easier to deal with/cope with” as time goes on. Symptoms may get better, but could get worse, as with any condition. But as you live with it longer you start to learn more about how to handle it and start to learn your limits in a different way so you can then care for your body in a better way instead of trying to continue how you once could and realizing it doesn’t work like that. I’ve had it for a few years now I still struggle with it but I’ve also learned how to manage it way better too. It’s tough to deal with I know but you can do it!😊

@strawbirrry I feel I’m “milking” my disorder well my dad says it, but I get sick walking to the commons sometimes. I can’t tell if I should be pushing myself or what
